The Reality of Running a Home Organising Business

London sights, a wedding ceremony, and
a quick detour - a client closet makeover

London: a prime tourist destination and, supposedly, my vacation. A couple days meant for rest, sightseeing, and celebrating a dear friend’s wedding. You’d think taking me out of Hong Kong would pause running a home organising business, but our clients are global citizens and they knew I was in town.

Back to London, enjoying familiar and new sights since visiting last 2012!

As professional organisers, we often highlight our wins (of course, we want you to think we’re thriving and at the top of our game) but entrepreneurship is a rollercoaster that runs both ways. Time has always been what we’re up against and you never find enough space between projects to rest/recover. This is on top of doing everything at once, managing your home, your staff, the home organising business, your personal relationships. Stress is tremendous but the pay-out keeps up with it, thankfully.

Finding time for a vacation is already rare. This day was meant for relaxation and celebrating my longtime friend’s wedding ceremony. But being a business owner means opportunities don’t always come twice and this was a valued client we simply couldn’t say no to.

Morning Sights of London and a Wedding Ceremony

Day 1 was for myself, having to be chronically awake, coffee was a must and I was able to visit a nice cafe that gave me a peaceful start to a hectic stay. I had not been in London since 2012, this day was spent sightseeing, visiting local markets, and looking back at so many things that have changed since then.

Cafes, markets, and parks with bustling London locals.

Day 2 was with my husband and London felt like it had so much more to offer. We spent the morning visiting classic tourist spots (seeing Big Ben in person and spotting the royal guards at Buckingham Palace) and headed to meet friends at a pre-wedding celebration. We reconnected with friends and acquaintances and enjoyed being present in everyone’s company.

London sites with their stunning architecture.

Day 3 was the wedding day and the venue was a breath of fresh air away from the city bustle. I was able to catch up with the bride and witness a truly beautiful ceremony, the perfect beginning to what we all hope is their lifelong journey together.

As much as I wished I had nowhere else to be, work called in, and after a wonderful day of celebrations, we had to head back into the city.

A Quick Detour: A Client Closet Makeover

Day 4 is departure day but not before a client request for a closet organising service.

This was a longtime client’s new home, and she wanted everything in place for her before officially moving in. When I arrived around 09:00am, the closets were empty and clothing was packed in bags and scattered across the bed. With a flight to catch, there was no room for delay.

Client clothes all set and ready to be tackled by myself.

After hours of sorting, organising, and allocating closet space for her impressive collection of clothes, I left knowing everything was exactly where it should be. The result was exactly what a professional closet makeover should deliver: a stress‑free move‑in and a functional, beautifully organised space from day one.

Closets sorted, styled, and ready to be used.

Goodbye to London and Back to Reality

It was summer, and the sky was still bright when I left for work. London had so much else to offer and this was, technically, still a vacation for me. I had enough time to sit down at a lovely cafe to wind down before my flight back to Hong Kong.

Running a home organising business is not an easy life, but it does take you places you wouldn’t have been able to on most jobs. I’ve had to handle and learn a lot of things to come to this point, and I'm starting to understand that the rollercoaster is not slowing down anytime soon.

Home Makeovers Are About Comfort, Not Just Aesthetics

Like me, most of our clients are running for time to juggle the multiple facets of our lives. Be it in a professional setting or just the complexities of home life, convenience and comfort is a luxury worth paying for our general physical and mental health.

Leaving London fulfilled both on the personal and work aspect of my life.

I sat down on that plane seat thankful of how my London stay went. It's rare to have days that appreciate both my personal and work life, when they do I’m reminded why I started Home Makeover HK Professional Organisers in the first place.
