So, how do we keep our kitchen or pantry organized? Here are some questions you need to ask yourself when you declutter your kitchen.

The pantry or kitchen is that one room in the house that can be really busy and have a flurry of activities day in and day out. It is very easy for items to get piled up and you find yourself with a lot more items than you started with. That is why it can really be a challenge to organize and declutter that hectic space.

But that does not mean there is no need to declutter it right? All the more that you need to keep it orderly so that you can work your way around the kitchen easily.

1.Do I have a use for this?

This is something you do not to think long and hard about. It is either you use the item or you don’t. If it is something that you have not really used or have not really learned how to use, then it is something that you can discard. To keep your kitchen free from clutter, make sure that the items you retain are the items you use on a regular basis or items that you really need in the near future. If by any chance, you happen to have given away something you need for those one-time occasions, then maybe you can borrow from family or friends. If you use them rarely, you do not need to have them clutter your kitchen.

2. How many of these items do I have?

Check the quantity of your items. Do you really 5 tongs? Or 4 peelers? Assess if you really need to have extras of the items that you have. If you have extras but you only use a couple of them, then give away the others and retain those that you are comfortable to use.

3. Does this help make my life easier?

Sometimes, we tend to buy things because we like how they look and how they decorate the kitchen. But more often than not, those items lose their decorative value and becomes part of the clutter. But there are also items in your kitchen that are convenient to use and make your life easier which are worth keeping. But if these items do not really help you in any way, it is time to give them away.

4. Can I still use this?

Because you have a lot of stuff in your kitchen, sometimes you forget things may now be way past their expiration dates. Follow the “First In, First Out” rule. As much as possible, put the newest items behind the old ones. In this way, you can use up your old stocks before the new ones.  You can also take note of the date when these items have been opened so that you can dispose of them when needed.

These are some of the questions that you ask yourself when you declutter your kitchen. It will also help if you are able to purchase bins and organizers to keep your stuff in order. If you can, try to have sliding doors or cabinets installed in your kitchen to store kitchen items and appliances properly. It can also help your kitchen appear clean and organized.  Find more brilliant hacks to organize your kitchen at Home Makeover HK.
